    About the method

Number and letter sequences are a classic way to exercise inductive reasoning — the ability to spot a rule from a few examples and apply it. Puzzles like these have appeared in reasoning tests and brain-teaser books for over a century.

The sequences in this quiz use common patterns: adding or multiplying, square and cube numbers, prime numbers, alternating rules, and hidden sequences such as the months of the year.

All 20 puzzles were written and double-checked for TestMyPsyche, and they get harder as you go. This is a fun reasoning workout, not an IQ test — your score depends a lot on practice and familiarity with these puzzle types.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is this an IQ test?

No. It's a fun reasoning quiz. Real IQ tests are longer, cover many kinds of reasoning and are carefully standardized.

What's the trick to solving sequences?

Look at the difference between numbers first. If that doesn't work, try ratios (multiplying), squares or cubes, or check whether two patterns take turns.

What happens if time runs out?

The puzzle counts as unanswered and the quiz moves on automatically.

Can I get better with practice?

Definitely. Most sequence puzzles use a handful of common rules. Once you know them, you'll spot them much faster.

    How long does it take?

Up to about 6 minutes for 20 puzzles.
